Corundum is an aluminum oxide mineral that can appear in nearly every color of the spectrum. The only color it doesn’t naturally exhibit in saturated intensity is emerald green. Different impurities lead to distinct colors: titanium gives blue, known as sapphire; chromium leads to red or pink, known as ruby or pink sapphire; iron produces yellow sapphire; and the rare mix of iron and chromium results in the padparadscha sapphire—perhaps the most treasured of them all.
